San Francisco Javier de Elizondo primary school was founded in 1977-8. The school now has 262 students and 31 teachers and highlights its methodology as project work in which the pupils, accompanied by a teacher, are the centre and motor of the learning process. Starting from the interests and motivations of the pupils and taking the curriculum into account, the school always begins from a point of interest and develops into a hypothetical course of study. This in turn leads to the search for information and ends with problem resolution.
San Franciso Javier offers its pupils a multilinguistic model: it starting point is the Basque language and teaching is carried out in two other languages, Spanish and English. The school, which works towards the development of a critical spirit, the capacity for argument and decision in an environment of integration, is progressively implanting a quality control system and working in conjunction with other state schools in the area.
